It’s been an exhausting month! I have a brand new Valentine this year: my amazing daughter, born mid-January. Now that everyone is acclimating to life together, I’m slowly returning to freelance work.

Taking a break – for real this time!

As I dust off my sadly neglected blog, you’d be forgiven for thinking that I’d beenkidnapped by aliens, or fallen into a well and not been able to climb out again. Fortunately, neither is the case.

The truth is, I’ve been working – a lot. This is good, but it’s only half the reason I’ve been less focused on my blog and writing business than I would have liked to be. Maybe just one-third the reason, even.

I Meant to Write: Balancing Creative and Professional Writing

Last year I signed up for NaNoWriMo and pounded out twenty thousand words for an absolutely terrible novel during the month of November.

(For the uninitiated, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. You sign up to write 50,000 words during the month of November. It doesn’t have to be good; in fact, sloppy is expected. The other eleven months of the year are for editing the garbage you produce into something resembling a novel.)

Managing Productivity Killers

Whew! Where did the summer go?

I’d love to be able to report that I’ve enjoyed a relaxing summer off or that I’ve been up to my eyeballs in lucrative work, but sadly, those would be lies. Blog posting has fallen off my radar for that time-honored yet inexcusable reason: poor time management.

This has been my summer of wrestling with some serious productivity killers, including:

  • my own working vacation
  • multiple internet outages
  • personal life intervening
