Great point, Josh! I’m also a member of the Association of Independent Information Professionals (aiip.org) and several fellow members said that they maintain online fax accounts solely for when they are working away from home. It can be a real godsend, but you’re right, often you can skate by with one or the other.

The nice thing about a scanner is that you can even frequently get away without online—or any kind of—faxing! My m.o. is to print, sign, and scan the one page necessary from a document, then email it back as a PDF with the original document attached as well.

Ah, yes, the downside of Madison: winter. (A downside for those of us who aren’t into cold weather, anyway.) I’m glad to know that it wasn’t just me not getting work done this summer! Are you looking at a busier fall, Josh? Cooler temperatures are tempting me outside, but only because it was so outrageously hot for so long.

I went on vacation for two weeks in August. The first week was just total time off, which was great. The second week I planned to work half-days.

It kind of worked. I got a little bit done, which was a lot more than I’d have expected! It’s just so hard to work during summer, especially as it winds down. Now that temperatures are dropping outside (and they have here in Madison, which is ANNOYING), it’s much easier to ensconce myself in my office.
