FAQs

I’ve never hired a freelance writer/independent researcher before. How does this work?

Every freelance writer does things a little bit differently. Some writers are fairly informal, and it works for them. I am a professional writer with a full-time business, so this is how I handle the process:

  • When you first contact me, I send you a brief questionnaire.
  • Once you return it, I will send you a contract outlining deadlines and a firm price quote. I usually price by the project rather than by the hour so that my clients know upfront how much the entire project will cost. The quoted price includes one re-write, which is normal and standard practice.
  • I require a 50% deposit on all projects from new clients. Once I receive your contract and deposit, I will begin work. I accept Google Checkout or PayPal for fast electronic payments from bank accounts or credit cards, so from the time you first contact me this process is as fast as you need it to be. I also take checks, of course, if it isn’t a rush job.
  • Once I have delivered your product and you’ve had a chance to review it, I will do a rewrite if necessary. I will then invoice you for the remaining balance due. Payment is due within 30 days.

I hired a freelance writer once and s/he returned unsatisfactory work. How will my experience with you be different?

Because I do this full-time, I’m available to answer your questions and update you on the status of the project along the way. I also have the availability to take last-minute and rush jobs. Need it tomorrow? No problem. Contact me and I’ll get it done right.

The last freelance writer I hired didn’t require a deposit. Why do you?

You wouldn’t expect the delivery guy from your favorite local restaurant to bring your order without paying first, would you? And your mechanic probably requires payment at point of service. My services take time and hard work to do well, and this method ensures that I get paid for my work and that you are happy with the results.

Why should I hire you to do research? I mean, everything is on the web, right?

A lot of information is available online, but there’s a lot that isn’t, too. As a highly trained research expert, I know the sources to turn to for the best information, and I know how to use them effectively. Perhaps most importantly, I also know when to stop looking so that I don’t waste your time and money. There’s so much information out there that research takes a lot of time to do well, and I do your research in the most efficient way possible.

Many thanks for the advice! The opt-in form will be very helpful in the future, but I’m not quite ready to roll out a newsletter just yet!
